Key Worker housing scheme adopted10.30.00am GMT Mon 2nd Feb 2004
The efforts of Lib Dems on Surrey County Council to save council tax payers' money, while protecting Council services, have resulted in the adoption of a scheme to support the County Council's key workers wishing to access housing within the County, that will save thousands of pounds in future years. This second recent success by Liberal Democrats is the result of two years of hard work by Lib Dem Councillor Hazel Watson. She says: "I am very pleased that this scheme is going to be developed by the County Council. This will be a great help to solve the Council's problems with recruitment and retention of key workers like social workers, teachers and youth workers. The difficulties in recruiting and keeping these people, are not only contributing to an ever increasing bill in agency staff, but also driving experienced and otherwise committed people away from Surrey, due to the very high housing costs."
