Tory threats to the Countryside

9.41.27am GMT Thu 16th Feb 2006

The Tories' BDR (Business Delivery Review) will adversely affect the County Council's countryside services. The proposals, if approved, will:

  • stop Historic Buildings grant

  • stop Parish Plan Project funding

  • cut funding for Countryside Management and Biodiversity

  • cut funding for the Basingstoke Canal.

By contrast, the Liberal Democrat manifesto for last year's County Council elections contained this commitment to protecting Surrey's countryside. "The Liberal Democrat group on Surrey County Council aims to conserve our villages, Green Belt and Townscapes."
